Protecting an Employer from a Discrimination Claim
A business owner feared that an employee would bring a discrimination suit against him and his company. Socius lawyers worked closely with the owner to decrease the likelihood of that happening and also to protect the company in case a lawsuit was filed. First, we prepared an employee manual for the company that included a discrimination and harassment prevention policy. We then obtained employment practices liability insurance to provide coverage for a potential lawsuit. Finally, we prepared a departure and release agreement that the employee signed, effectively barring him from bringing a discrimination or any other claim against our clients.
